Alessia Nobilio dominated in the 90th Portuguese International Ladies Amateur Championship where she won with 273 (67 69 69 68, -15) strokes, a good eight ahead of Spain's Carolina Lopez-Chacarra (281, -7)
On the course of the Montado Golf Resort (par 72), in Palmela, Portugal, it was an authentic Italian triumph with the Italians doing a double by also winning the Nations Cup (with the trio made up of Nobilio herself Francesca Fiorellini and Carolina Melgrati) and with the presence among the top ten of Carolina Melgrati and Francesca Fiorellini, seventh with 285 (-3) and the latter recovered from 18th place with a 66 (-6), the best partial of the round, and Matilde Innocenti Angelini, ninth with 286 (-2).
This is the third victory abroad in the space of twelve days for the Italian women golfers, who have started the year in an overwhelming manner, after those in the United States sealed by Benedetta Moresco (Annika Invitational) and Alessandra Fanali (Tri Match in the Desert). Successes that also reward the work of the Italian Golf Federation committed to the development of the women's movement through the ‘Golf is woman’ project.
Alessia Nobilio, from Milan, 19 years of age, added another pearl to her rich palmares of victories, putting a full stop to the tournament with the seven shot lead taken after the third round. In the fourth she gave her opponents no chance to react, keeping up the pace with an impeccable performance that produced a 68 (-4) with four birdies without bogey. The Italians were assisted by coach Stefano Soffietti.
