Alessia Nobilio is excited about her first full year as a professional golfer on the Ladies European Tour (LET).
Last summer, the Italian graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), before competing in amateur competitions for the Italian team and then moving on to the LET Access Series (LETAS).
The plan to turn pro after college was always in his plans and he felt it was important to pay back the Italian Federation before turning pro.
‘I really enjoyed UCLA. From a golfing point of view, it wasn't the best experience for me, because I didn't score well and I missed some events, especially in my final year,’ he said.
‘Overall, it was a great experience. I got a degree in economics, which was a goal of mine, and I made lifelong friends. I also matured a lot as a person, even though I was not playing my best golf.
‘It made me realise how important it is for me and how much I love this game, which is why I turned pro a couple of months after returning to Italy and decided to dedicate my life to it.
‘I waited a couple of months after my return from the United States to turn professional, because I wanted to play some events for the Italian Federation, which has always supported me. It is also a good way to spend time with my coaches and recover my game'.
Nobilio was a member of LETAS in 2024 and participated in four events as an amateur before turning professional and participating in two more events.
During the 2024 season, the 23-year-old recorded four top-five finishes and finished the year in 12th place in the LETAS order of merit.
He continued: ‘These top five finishes meant a lot to me. After struggling with my game in the US, they helped me regain my confidence, as I didn't expect to play well straight away. I loved every single event I played on the LETAS.
‘The venues and organisation were fantastic and all the people working there were very friendly and helpful. It was also great to see some friends from youth golf and to compete with them.
‘The highlight for me was probably the five under par I achieved in the second round of the first event I played in August [the Ahlsell Trophy], because it had been a long time since I had achieved such a low score.’
Nobilio knew that the plan for the end of the year was to attend the Lalla Aicha Q-School in Marrakech, Morocco.
After finishing the LETAS season, the Italian player fine-tuned certain aspects of her game to prepare for the final qualifier at Al Maaden Golf and Royal Golf Marrakech.
‘I made a plan with my three coaches and dedicated the first month after the last LET Access event to fixing my swing and putting technique,’ he said.
‘After that, I was happy to have the opportunity to test my game at the Santander Golf Tour in early November, where I played two solid rounds. The last month has been mainly focused on on-course strategy.
‘I like both courses and the thing I like most is their diversity. Both courses present challenges in different ways and I think it will be a good test to see how we can adapt to different types of courses.’
Nobilio was thrilled to score a round of 73-73-68-69-69 to finish the Final Qualifier in 16th place and secure LET Category 12 for 2025.
He added: ‘It is a dream come true to get my full LET card. I knew how strong the field was at Q-School. My main goal was to be patient and positive throughout the Final Qualifier and I'm glad I succeeded.’
